THIS DIARY WILL LOG THE PERFORMANCE, WORKSHOPS AND GAMES TOUR that my husband Haggis McLeod (Juggler Extraordinaire) and I will be undertaking in ACEH, SUMATRA in JANUARY 2007 for tsunami-affected children

CHILDREN'S WORLD INTERNATIONAL (the Sister-Charity of Children's World which has been working in schools and special schools in the West Country of England since 1981) was set up in 1999 to take the fun that Children's World can offer to children in Kosovo and Albania in the wake of the Kosovan War. Work was also undertaken in Northern Ireland.

THEN THE TSUNAMI HIT ON BOXING DAY 2004, and since then we have taken psycho-social Performance, Workshops and Games Tours to Sri Lanka (4 separate Tours) and Thailand and Aceh. All these previous Tours have diaries that can be found on the website.

Some of the photos of housing put together as a film.

OUR TOUR IN ACEH IN APRIL 2006 convinced us that all Children's World International Tsunami Tours should be focused there in future, as their need is so great. More than 170,000 died in Aceh Province, more than half a million were made homeless and many thousands of livelihoods were lost. Although Aceh received 60% of the tsunami damage and destruction, for some reason it only received 31% of the DEC money raised by the British people, and because the area has never received many tourists (because of the "Conflict" between the Government and Gam) they didn't receive any personal donations either like Thailand and Srin Lanka did.

THE NEED IN ACEH IS STILL VERY GREAT - only a half to a third of the homeless have now received permanent rehousing. Many are in temporary housing, and a great many are still living in "barracks" - rows of rooms on stilts with a small communal balcony in front - each family room measures on average 3m x 4m. It is now more than 2 years since the tsunami struck and it looks as though it will take at least another 18 months to get everyone rehoused. In the meantime the families living in the barracks are in cramped and very difficult conditions - they badly need some FUN! So that is what Children's World International is providing, in conjunction with Muslim Aid, Yayasan Lamjabat and the Irish and Australian Red Cross. Read on to find out what's going on.......
